One of the things I studied when I worked toward my degree in education was developmental appropriateness. There are some topics or activities better suited to ten-year-olds than to three-year-olds. A wise teacher knows when and how to present information to his students. The disciples often called Jesus “Rabbi” or “Teacher,” and the title is apt; He is an amazing, intuitive, wise teacher. He knew what His disciples could absorb and understand at every stage of their spiritual development, and He presented the information on an applicable “need to know” basis. There are things about Christianity that seemed foreign to me as an eight year old new believer but now make sense to me as an almost sixty-year-old who’s walked with Jesus for more than five decades. But you know what? There are still things I haven’t yet comprehended. There might be things I don’t understand until I actually reach Jesus’s side. And that’s okay, because I know I can trust my Teacher to guide, advise, and direct me.
