In God’s justice

Boundaries…we all need them. Boundaries keep us safe, teach us common sense limits, and equal the playing field for everyone. Without boundaries, chaos ensues and unpleasant consequences plague us. We all need to respect and honor boundaries, whether those boundaries are the rules in a household or classroom, the law of the land, or—most importantly—the decrees in God’s Word. Today a flippant attitude toward God is prevalent, seen in how His name is belittled, His children are treated, and so many false gods are accepted as equal or even greater than the One True God. Fearing (respecting) God is the root of respect in general. If a person doesn’t stand in awe of a Creator, then he’ll have no respect for the created (other human beings or the environment or someone else’s belongings). We like to tout God as a loving God, and He is!, but there’s another side, too: “He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world righteously and the peoples fairly” (Psalm 98:9). Because He is holy and just, He will keep His promise to judge the world’s inhabitants. Those who ignore or belittle Him will receive their reward; those who honor and revere Him by living within His boundaries will receive theirs. We each will be given what we deserve by the One who created us and knows our hearts, and on that day there will be no doubt He deserves our honor and respect.
