This verse used to confuse me. Wasn’t God always near? That’s what my parents told me. So why did I need to draw near to Him? Well, I think I’ve found a pretty simple answer to that question. I need to draw near to Him for ME. Yes, He’s always there. He always cares. He’s always ready to meet my needs. But the further I drift from Him, the less I acknowledge His presence. The less I strive to please Him. The less I live in a way that brings Him glory. When I truly consider all He’s done for me, why would I want to do anything less than give my all to Him? I’m so grateful for His love, grace, and concern for me. Being near Him is where I find my greatest fulfillment.
