A student once asked me, “What’s the difference between knowledge and wisdom?” My response: “Knowledge is knowing something; wisdom is knowing how to use it.” In other words, we not only know, we act on what we know. We all need wisdom for decision making and to navigate life in general. There are some people who love to poke fun at or hold themselves above someone who isn’t as knowledgable as they are. God is all-knowing, but He is never arrogant or selfish. He never scolds us for asking for wisdom. As a wise and perfect Father, He doles it as we need it. Because we’re human, there might be some things that happen on this earth that never make sense to us, and—honestly—that’s okay. If we knew it all, we wouldn’t need God, and I’d sure hate to walk this life without Him. Knowing HE knows, and trusting He has a plan for our lives that exceeds anything we could conceive for ourselves, is part of faith. And the wise person holds firmly to her faith.

Boatner heard many spirituals from his father, an itinerant Methodist minister,…
