Jesus appeared to His disciples the evening of His resurrection, but for some reason Thomas wasn’t in the room. When the disciples told him they’d seen Jesus, Thomas had a hard time believing it. I have to sympathize with him. The news probably did seem too good to be true after witnessing Jesus’s crucifixion. But when Jesus came a second time and Thomas was able to not only see but touch his Savior, his joy exploded in an expression so personal it brings a sting of tears: “MY Lord and MY God! [emphasis mine]” I love Thomas’s proclamation of faith here. He recognizes Jesus as one with God. He states that Jesus is Lord—Lord over Thomas’s life. Faith brings us to a place of recognition and obedience, of seeking His will over our own. So intensely personal… And that relationship is available to all who choose to believe.
