Taking my faith

I think at some point in time in everyone’s life, we spend a few minutes fantasizing about what we would do if we suddenly came into a large sum of money. Being rich has a mighty tug on some people—to the point they’re willing to deal unscrupulously with others or even take what doesn’t belong to them in order to possess wealth. But there is no greater wealth than the knowledge of God’s word. Money doesn’t buy happiness and contentment. If it did, all rich people would be endlessly satisfied, but there’s much evidence to the contrary if you read the news. What does give us security and contentment? A relationship with God the Father through the Son, Jesus Christ. Accepting Him secures our place in heaven; obeying His instruction keeps us in close fellowship with Him and eliminates deep regret and self-recrimination. When I die, I won’t be able to take my physical possessions with me, but I will take my faith all the way through eternity.

This isn’t hymn day, but I’m going to close with part of the lyrics from “All I Once Held Dear” by Robin Mark. I pray these words are true for you:

All I once held dear, built my life upon,
All this world reveres and wars to own;
All I once thought gain I have counted loss,
Spent and worthless now, compared to this:
Knowing You, Jesus,
Knowing You;
There is no greater thing.
You’re my all, You’re the best,
You’re my joy, my righteousness,
And I love You, Lord.
