There are some people who are so stubbornly set in their own ways that even when they are proven wrong, they can’t accept it. The Jewish leaders had it in their heads that the Messiah would be a warrior king, one who would rescue them from Roman rule. Even though Jesus performed miracles and wonders, they couldn’t see past their expectation to something so much better than temporary relief from tyranny. We sing a chorus in church now and then that starts out, “Open the eyes of my heart, Lord… I want to see You.” Our physical eyes aren’t enough; we have to look with our spiritual eyes. We have to set aside our preconceived notions of what we want and acknowledge what we need. What do we need? A Savior. Forgiveness. New life. Have you opened the eyes of your heart? Jesus is waiting.
