Most of the time we think of sinning as doing things we shouldn’t do, such as lying, stealing, or being unkind to someone. But there’s another side to it: if we know we should do something and choose not to do it, these are sins of omission. The Bible gives us guidance for things a follower of Christ should incorporate into their daily lives. Loving our neighbors, tithing to the church, and praying for our leaders come to mind. In the case of these original readers, they were going about their lives with no thought to pleasing God, only pleasing self. Self-focus/self-sufficiency will always lead us away from the One who loves us and wants the best for us. These people might have discovered a temporary pleasure in their pursuits, but what of the eternal? Our physical lives are fleeting; our spiritual life lasts forever. So which should receive the greater priority? (That’s a rhetorical question. *wink*) If we know, we should do without excuses or delays. Stay the course, dear Christian! We never regret obedience.
