There are lots of cliches about money: “You can’t take it with you”; “Money won’t buy happiness”; “The more money you have, the more you have to lose.” Despite the warnings, people do all kinds of things—both legal and illegal/immoral—to accumulate wealth. There’s a scripture that asks what profits a man if he gains the world but loses his soul? In all honesty, I see no sin in earning money or inheriting money. The sin enters in when gaining money (or anything else whether tangible or intangible, for that matter) becomes more important than following God’s laws. The way of the Lord leads to peace, fulfillment, and joy beyond worldly comprehension. God points us to life eternal, which outweighs temporary financial gain. If we’re going to accumulate something, why not strive to increase our trust in and faithfulness to Him? The profit on those pursuits won’t do you or anyone else any harm.
