My mother taught me that the devil couldn’t *make* me do anything; it was always my choice to do right or to do wrong. No excuses allowed in our house! LOL But she also assured me that when I made the right choice, I would have God’s strength to see the decision through. I can still hear my mom’s voice saying, “Resist the devil and he will flee.” She believed and lived the truth that when we call on God for help, He leads us away from sin. She knew she couldn’t resist the devil unless she first submitted to God. Submitting to God and, therefore, resisting the devil doesn’t come without intentional commitment. If I’m not committing to Him and His ways, I’ll fall into the devil’s traps. Mom’s wise counsel came directly from James 4—it’s scriptural; it’s sound; it’s true. Her life of serving Him set the example for my brother and me. I pray to continue her legacy of loving and serving Him above all else.
