Peter was a fiery preacher, and he wanted everyone to acknowledge that Jesus was the promised Messiah. On this particular day (the day of Pentecost), he was preaching to a predominantly Jewish audience. They’d been waiting a long time for the promised Messiah, therefore Peter’s words had to have caught their attention. That Peter proclaimed Jesus was both Lord AND Messiah is important. Foundational to the Christian faith is the belief that Jesus is the Messiah who came to save; foundational to growing as a believer is making Him the Lord of our lives. Jesus was crucified and resurrected for our salvation. The work He performed at Calvary requires a response from us. We’ll look at that in depth on Thursday.
