If you’re seeking eternal security, look no further than Romans 8:35-39. Paul gives another of his rhetorical questions that has only one answer: No one! There were (and are) unpleasant life situations. Affliction (trouble), distress (hardship), persecution (mistreatment for Christ’s sake) were all familiar to the early believers; they’re realities around the world for many of today’s believers, too. “Famine” or “nakedness” refers to poverty, “danger” to threat of bodily harm or death, and the sword could mean being forced into war or facing execution. Perils can make us fearful, but there’s one fear that can always be set aside: hardships’ presence does not eradicate God’s care for His own. Whatever trial we face, He’s with us, providing us the strength, comfort, and peace we need to endure. These kinds of situations might rattle us physically or emotionally, but they cannot steal us from our Father. In that truth, we can always find security.
