Submitting to God, as we saw in yesterday’s verse, is the first step of Christian service. Fellowship with God doesn’t happen without effort on our part. Our crazy sin nature gets in the way. We must be intentional in practicing the disciplines of Christ-like living. Being humble is recognizing our need for His strength and wisdom to live rightly. We are dependent on Him rather than self. When we choose His ways, we are automatically drawn into right fellowship with Him. When we’re in right fellowship with Him, we find our joy and peace. And one day we will join Him and hear those wonderful words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Can there be any greater exultation than that?
