Rest in His shadow

Wow. “…become food for the jackals.” That’s honestly not a thought I’ve ever considered happening to anyone I know. Maybe because I’ve never felt as if someone wanted to kill me (knock on wood! ha!). But there’ve been plenty of times when people have hurt me, and sometimes it’s been because of my Christian faith. It does seem at times that the bad guys win in this life—that they get away with their ugly deeds and maybe even appear to be rewarded for their selfish or mean-spirited acts. Maybe we toy with the idea of seeking revenge, of retaliating in like manner. But the rewards for evil-doers will be short-lived, especially when compared to eternity. Deuteronomy 32:35 (KJV) says, God speaking, “Vengeance is Mine, and recompense; Their foot shall slip in due time; For the day of their calamity is at hand, And the things to come hasten upon them.” God is aware of every hurt we suffer. God cares about the slights we experience for His name’s sake. God is a loving God, but He is also a just God. However He chooses to respond to those who prey upon God’s children, it will be fair, deserved, and unbending. We need only rest in the shadow of His wings, where we find our comfort and strength, and allow Him to work.
