Verses 9-11 are all one long sentence, but I’ve divided it up. This follows our instruction to rely on God’s wisdom and discernment for our love to abound. When we rely on His wisdom rather than the world’s (which is foolishness in His eyes!), we can determine the excellent things in which we should engage our time and talents. What believer doesn’t want to be found pure and blameless when the Lord returns? Left to our own devices, even our best intentioned acts might not be in alignment with God’s will. Therefore praying for Him to bestow His knowledge and discernment in our heart is the first step toward approving what is excellent. Tomorrow we’ll see the result of walking in excellence.
