Usually when we think of eternal life, we think about the life we’ll have in heaven when our physical body dies (or is raptured). But have you ever considered that eternal life begins the day a soul receives Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord? Eternal life does mean life beyond physical death, but more important than that, it’s the special quality of life we gain through the salvation experience. It means living each day with an awareness of our close and personal relationship with God the Father. We know Him, and He knows us. That word “know” in this meaning is beyond grasping factual information. It’s a relational knowledge—intimate and intensely personal. Our greatest security and joy should come from the truth that God knows us and, because of Jesus, we know Him. But we aren’t meant to keep Him to ourselves! We honor Him when we share with others about the eternal life Christ offers.
