Have you ever begged God to explain a situation to you? Some things are just so hard to understand, and quite often we aren’t given an explanation.

When I’m in a “Why? Why?” place, I think about the story of a man who awakened one morning to discover that a large rock had rolled down the mountain during the night and sat in the middle of his yard. He heard the Lord tell him, “Push against the rock.” So he did. Day after day, he tried to move the rock from his yard. People asked him what he was doing. “I’m trying to move the rock,” he said. They laughed and told him it was impossible; only a fool would try to move the rock. He wondered why God had given him such an instruction but, in obedience, he spent time each day for weeks, pushing the rock.

Then one day, in frustration at his failure and heartsore from ridicule, he cried out to God: “Lord, I don’t understand why You’ve asked me to do this! You’ve given me an impossible task.” The Lord said, “Look at yourself, my son. Look at your rippling muscles. Look at your improved strength. See what you have gained? I told you to push against the rock, and you have; I never told you to move it.”

We might not understand why we’ve been called to a specific task, but God knows. He has a purpose meant for our good and His glory. Do I trust Him enough to remain obedient to His instruction?
