Emulate Jesus

Reasonability seems to have taken a backseat to making one’s opinion known. Those who attempt reasonable discourse might find themselves ignored or shouted down by the crowd. But that shouldn’t stop our attempts. The world needs to see a different example than noise and selfishness. Think of Jesus standing silent against unfair accusation. It isn’t easy, but it’s better than adding to the chaos. “The Lord is at hand” has two meanings for me. First, He’s close by to give me the wisdom and discernment I need to navigate unpleasant encounters; second, He’s got His eye on me, observing my actions and reactions. I don’t want to disappoint Him, and being reasonable instead of angry, loud, and forceful is a better choice. Anger begets anger; a quiet answer has the potential to turn away wrath. I’d rather emulate my gentle Shepherd than participate in the clamors of the world.
