Have you ever done the “love languages” test? It was developed by Gary Chapman as a means of discovering what kinds of acts speak love most clearly to one’s spouse. We don’t have to take that kind of test, though, when it comes to showing God we love Him. It’s very simple: if we love Him, we keep His commandments. Obedience stems from knowing what is expected of us. By treasuring God’s word—honoring it and following it—we avoid falling into sin. Sin causes a lot of unpleasant consequences, but the worst part of sin is that it puts us in direct opposition to God. What a painful place to be! In love, He gave us guidance in His word; in love, we follow it. The end result is peace and a joy this world cannot give nor comprehend. What a beautiful love language He speaks.
