Jesus knew He was leaving His disciples, but He also knew He wasn’t leaving them comfortless. The Holy Spirit would come and He would never leave them. The Holy Spirit definitely plays a role in the believer’s life. He is our Guide, our Comfort, our Discerner, our Strength, and so much more. Before we openly acknowledge our need for a Savior, however, He plays a different role: that of Judge. He is the one who pricks the lost one’s conscience and lets him know he’s walking an unGodly path that leads to eternal punishment. He is the one who taps at the heart’s door and prods the lost to receive salvation. Those who are lost don’t appreciate having their lostness pointed out, but without the truth, they’ll be lost for all eternity. I’m so grateful to the Holy Spirit for tapping at my heart’s door when I was still a young child. I’m grateful for His presence in my life. I’m grateful that my future is secure because I serve the Savior who rose from the grave and who will greet me when I cross the threshold of Heaven’s gate. No damnation awaits those who believe!
