There’s a whole lot of defensiveness in the world today. A whole lot of finger-pointing instead of taking responsibility. A whole lot of “don’t judge me” flung around. Guess what? Even though it might be aimed at you, it isn’t you creating this issue. The Spirit came to convict. When people are under conviction, they get defensive. They look for someone else to blame. They accuse others of judging them. But what it comes down to, at the very core, they are experiencing guilt for their behavior and they don’t like the feeling. The way to eradicate the uncomfortable feeling isn’t through defensiveness, excuse-making, or accusations; it comes by asking Jesus to forgive us. The Spirit calls; I pray all lost and needy hearts choose to heed the call.
