How satan relishes “buffeting” us—tempting us, taunting us. Life itself is fraught with trials. None of us make it through our lives unscathed by hardship because we are stuck in a sin-fallen world. BUT James advises in chapter 1, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” Trials give us an opportunity to grow in faith by leaning more fully into His strength—it leads us to that place of contentment regardless of circumstances. And here’s something else: no trial, challenge, or heartache can rob me of my salvation. I professed my faith in Him, and that means He is mine and I am His forevermore. Therein is my blest assurance! He walks with me through every life circumstance, and in His presence I find my peace.
