Who can stop the Lord Almighty?

I love the personal relationship the psalmist (most likely Moses) shared with God. He doesn’t say that the Lord is *A* refuge and *A* fortress, but rather *MY* refuge and *MY* fortress. Think about what that means. A refuge is a shelter, a place we go to when we’re being threatened. Imagine the foxhole into which soldiers dive to escape rifle fire. So God is our safe haven, but in addition to being our haven, He is our fortress. Like the thick walls surrounding a castle or the city of Jerusalem after Nehemiah rebuilt them, God is the barrier that stands between us and the evil forces of this world. No human wall exists that will stand forever. However, the strength of the Lord Almighty is impenetrable. We sing in church, “Who can stop the Lord Almighty?” The answer is no one and no thing. We are safe in Him.
