“Before I formed thee…I knew thee…” Do those words give you a delightful shiver? If they don’t, read them again and plug your name in for the “thee.” Because it’s true. Even before you were formed in your mother’s womb, God the Father knew you. And more than that, He had a plan for your life—a plan meant to bring you hope and joy. Society likes to put qualifiers on human life. Those who are old, sick, infirm in some way, or unborn are often discarded because they aren’t valued in society’s eyes. But in God’s eyes, ALL are valued. ALL are loved. ALL were known before time began. ALL have a purpose in His kingdom. We each have a destiny upheld by God’s providence. In moments of self-doubt or discouragement, you might ask yourself, Why am I here? The answer is this: You are here to know and follow the Creator. Until we discover that purpose, we only exist. Do you notice how verse 4 begins? The LORD (the covenant God, Yahweh) came to Jeremiah. God SOUGHT Jeremiah.
God seeks His created ones. The call from God on our hearts is not coincidental; it is intentional. The Lord formed, knew (of course He did, because He formed him!), sanctified, and ordained Jeremiah for a unique purpose. And you know what? He did the same for YOU.
