Walk in the Spirit

The key to godly character can be summed up with Paul’s direction to the Galatian believers: “Walk in the Spirit.” “Walk” here refers to the way we conduct our lives. If we’re walking in the Spirit, then we’re conducting ourselves in relationship to God—in communion with Him through the indwelling Holy Spirit. The question then becomes…how do we walk in the Spirit? Paul gave the Colossian believers some good advice on that. He wrote, “…set your minds on things above, not on earthly things (Col. 3:2).” When we’re preoccupied with the world, we get pulled into the world. But by intentionally thinking about the things of God’s kingdom and filling ourselves with His Word, it’s easier for us to hear the Spirit’s leading. When we’re guided by the Spirit, we’re less likely to plunge into sinful pursuits that harm our relationship with God. We’ll touch on that a little more tomorrow.
