Trusting Jesus

Lazarus’s sickness probably felt like a massive storm cloud descending on Martha and Mary, just as an illness or other hard life event affects us. But how many times, when we’re beyond the hardship looking back, do we see how God used the situation to bring about good? Right now in my circle of family and friends, there are people who have lost loved ones, lost their jobs, suffered broken relationships, faced health challenges… None of it is fun. But also within that circle I’ve seen faith rise above fear, trust in God grow deeper, strength gained, and new opportunities open that wouldn’t have come about without the former door closing. And in each of those situations, God has been glorified.

I don’t know what hardship you’re facing today, but I’d like to assure you: God doesn’t waste anything. He can use this situation to make you stronger and more faith-filled, and someday you will be able to see how the challenge prepared you to conquer something else or gave you the experience to provide comfort and wisdom for someone else. Lazarus’s sickness didn’t end in death, and your current situation will not defeat you. Not when you trust Jesus to guide you. Ask God to be glorified through your storm. You’ll find your silver lining.
