Peace… Oh, how we need peace. Righteousness is sown by those who cultivate peace. So how do we cultivate peace? We can’t go to the store and buy a packet of Peace seeds to put in the ground and then wait for them to grow. I know—silly analogy. But honestly, the process is the same. We cultivate peace by planting God’s Word deep within our hearts. His words take root and result in behavior that looks different than the world’s behavior. In times when chaos rages all around us, inside we are still at peace, safe and secure in the arms of our Savior and King. People will know we have something they do not when they see the peace that passes understanding in us.
John 16:33 is one of my favorite verses—”I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.” (HCSB) Our peace isn’t based on what the world gives, but it’s rooted in the One who holds the victory over sin and death. Rest in Him, and peace will reign within you.
