As we discovered last Friday, many of those who trailed after Jesus decided His message was too hard to accept and left. Jesus then asked the Twelve if they were leaving, too. Peter’s answer is so profound, so full of trust, so full of truth, that it leaves me breathless. To whom would he go other than to Christ, who held eternal life.
A former minister said one Sunday morning, “If I believe Jesus and follow His teachings and I’m wrong about who He is, then I’ve wasted my life. But if reject Him and live for self, then I’ve wasted my eternity.” Our physical life will end, and in comparison to eternity it’s hardly even a blink. Which bears more importance—now or then? JESUS has the words of eternal life. Those who have not received Him are marching toward eternal damnation. Do we love enough to speak the truth and save them from an eternity separated from God? Oh, how I pray we do.
