Jesus, the only Son of God, did not come to be served; He came to serve. In Jesus’ time, people wore sandals and walked on dusty roads. Their feet would be grimy, the nails rimmed with dirt. But Jesus humbled Himself and washed the feet of His disciples, even the one who had already betrayed Him. Now that is a servant’s heart.
Humility doesn’t come easily to some people, but a humble heart gives us a willingness to reach out to the lowly. It lets us give a glimpse of Christ’s love. The least shall be first in Christ’s Kingdom. Lord, give me a servant’s heart.
