Presence of the Spirit

When we’re saved, we experience a new birth in Christ. Our “old self” with its tendencies toward sin is gone, and the tendencies of our “new self” are aimed toward pleasing the One who saved us. However, for as long as we live, we’re trapped in human bodies in a sin-fallen world. Temptations will come; it’s war we’ll battle our entire lives long. As we mature in Him—as we learn to lean into His strength and resist those temptations—we find ourselves giving in to sin less and less. The Spirit helps us overcome the desires of the flesh so we can live without regrets, without unpleasant consequences, without the burden of displeasing our Father. I’m so grateful for new mercies each morning and the abiding presence of the Spirit to lead and direct me!
