In 1 Peter 1:13-25, Peter expounded on the subject of holiness, encouraging Christians to exhibit obedience to Christ. Then he advises attitudes and actions that need to be eliminated. The five sins listed are destructive to relationships. Church congregations, families, spouses, best friends…these relationships have been shattered or permanently scarred when malice (intentional harm), deceit (outright lying), hypocrisy (insincerity, playacting), envy (resentment or greediness), or slander (gossip) goes unchecked. It’s better for Christians to engage in the opposite of each of these negative behaviors. Let’s put on compassion, honesty, integrity, generosity, and kindness grounded in truth. Being a Christian means being born into new life! So live a new kind of life that is consistent with the Gospel of Jesus.
