Jesus’s choice to lay down His life at Calvary was in direct obedience to God the Father. He had the ability to resist. God’s power was His power because the Father and the Son are one. If He’d wanted to, He could have squashed those soldiers with a flick of His little finger. But God had sent Him to be the world’s sin sacrifice, and Jesus was obedient even to the point of a horrific, excruciating, humiliating death on a cross. His sacrifice opened the door to salvation and grace for each of us. What love. What commitment. What unselfishness. Jesus, may I never forget the price You paid for my salvation.
