Every time I see this verse, I hear Amy Grant’s voice in my head singing “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet…” The thing about lamps or lanterns is that they don’t light up a huge area. If you’re walking a dark pathway and you hold a lamp out in front of you, you’ll be able to see the next few steps. Enough to know if a pothole or a limb or even a snake is in the spot where you’ll next place your foot. I think there’s a reason God gives us a lamp and not a spotlight; He wants us to trust HIM to guide us instead of relying on your own sight. When we have free rein, too often we get ourselves into pickles. (I like using that “we” so I don’t feel like I’m the only one who’s stepped off God’s intended pathway.) He gives us what we need to stay the course, and the one thing we can count on: He will be with us each step of our life’s journey. Follow the Light. He won’t lead you someplace meant for evil.

You are loved
