Daily obedience

Have you ever heard anyone joke about “Sunday Christians”? You know, those who sit in a church pew week after week, but live to serve self every other day. That word “diligently” tells us pretty clearly that we’re missing the point if we limit our faithfulness to Sunday morning. Daniel Webster, a 19th-century American statesman, said this about the value of Scripture: “If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering…but if we and our posterity neglect its instruction and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury our glory in profound obscurity.” It’s a pretty sobering statement, don’t you agree? Now, apply that to an individual’s life. When we veer away from His precepts and do the opposite of what He commanded, we cannot prosper in a spiritual sense. And what part of the three-dimensional humans created by God lives on forever—the physical body, the emotional thought process, or the soul? When we neglect to make obedience to God a priority, we rob ourselves of our source of strength, discernment, and compassion. God knows what is best for us; the wise person diligently strives to obey Him.
