Choosing our destination

“…no excuse for their sin.” Once we know better, we’re held to a higher standard. This maxim applies in the home, at school, in the workplace, and most certainly with moral conduct. We can tell when a child reaches the age of accountability. They don’t openly get into the cookie jar before dinner; they sneak. They sneak, because they know what they’re doing is wrong, so they’re worried about being caught and suffering consequences.

We reach another age of accountability when we comprehend that our poor choices are actually sin—doing wrong in God’s eyes. We can’t tell God, “I didn’t know better,” because He definitely knows our heart and motivation. Once we’ve reached that age of accountability, then it’s time to make a choice: ask God to forgive our sins and ask Jesus to be our Savior; or ignore the pull to be saved from our sin state. There’s an eternal consequence for this choice. Eternity with God in heaven, or eternity separated from God… Our destination is up to us.
