King James phrases it, “…shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” The Lord Himself shields those who dwell with Him. When we commune with God, we are safe from Satan’s darts. The minions of hell cannot reach us when we are in God’s shadow. Yes, we’re still trapped in this sin-filled world, but the temptations that plague and seek to destroy cannot sneak beneath God’s shadow.
I found a note in one of my mom’s devotionals after she passed away that her favorite scripture was 1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humanity. God is faithful, and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape so that you are able to bear it.” It startled me, because I wouldn’t have thought of my strong, faithful mother experiencing temptation. But then it dawned on me that the reason she lived such a consistently faithful life was she’d developed the habit of accessing God’s strength to resist temptation. Thus, temptation lost its power over her. I really believe Mom abided under the shadow of the Almighty, and she is now experiencing the blessing granted to one who lived a holy, faithful life.
When we are in close communion with God, we are safe. Our confidence grows from clinging to our Father.
