Although most rejected Him, there were some Jewish people who saw the truth and acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah. To these people He gave an important admonition: “…continue in My word.” To put it bluntly, lip service isn’t enough here—we need action. Whenever my girls responded to an instruction with, “I know, Mom,” I usually retorted, “It isn’t enough to know; you have to DO.” (Which middle daughter now says to her boys. *grin*) But it’s true. If we claim Jesus as Lord, if we claim to be Christians, if we claim to be children of God, then our behavior should give evidence of our claim. If we choose actions or attitudes that go against the teaching in God’s Word, then we can’t really call ourselves disciples. “Christian” isn’t a religious title; it’s a way of living that reflects the Son.
