In the early 1980s, Michael Martin Murphey released a song titled, “What’s Forever For?” The final lines of the chorus ask, “And if love never lasts forever, tell me what’s forever for?” Kind of a melancholy thought, isn’t it? Well, let’s turn it on its ear. There is a love that lasts forever—the love God has for His children. Everything of God lasts forever. He has always been, is now, and will always be. The instruction He provided for us in His Word will always be. In a world where nothing—laws, societal norms, relationships, morality, peace—lasts forever, our security is found in Him and His Word. When we understand who He is and accept His invitation to become His child by believing in, confessing, and accepting His Son as our personal Lord and Savior, our lives are changed for all eternity. Life forever with Him is ours when we believe. So in answer to the song’s query, forever is for us…with Him.
