Finding security

When I taught school, I tried very hard to be consistent in my expectations for my students’ behavior and predictable in my follow-through with them. If they knew that what I expected today matched yesterday and that consequences (both positive and negative) wouldn’t change, then they felt secure in my classroom. Being double-minded—constantly switching sides on an issue or floating on the wind—makes a person lukewarm, and we know what Jesus said about the lukewarm! God is never lukewarm or wishy-washy; what He says He means, and He doesn’t waver from it. This gives us stability and security, something the world sorely lacks. Psalm 37:3 says “Trust in the Lord and do what is good; dwell in the land and live securely.” When we trust in Him and seek to follow His ways, we will find a security that carries us into eternity. (I hope you’ll enjoy seeing more flowers from my dad’s garden this week.)
