Turning back

Have you ever seen a soldier do an about-face? It’s actually very impressive to watch. One deliberate, brisk movement that aims the individual in the opposite direction. This is such a great visual for repentance. When we know we’re going in the wrong direction, repentance turns the tide. It sets us back on God’s pathway instead of sin’s pathway. It’s so easy to wander off course, considering all the viewpoints presented to us on a daily basis. But when the Holy Spirit whispers, “Child, you’re moving away from Him,” it’s time to do an about-face and redirect ourselves. A Christian cannot be content on a sin-filled pathway. Turning back to His decrees restores our joy and our fellowship with Him. And that always brings peace.
