If someone denies that Jesus Christ is the sinless Son of God, sent to earth to die on the cross for the salvation of mankind and then rise again, conquering death forevermore, then it is our obligation to speak in His defense. To deny Jesus is to reject Him, which marks one as an unbeliever. Apparently these men in Jude’s time not only spoke against Jesus, but they lived in ways that did not glorify Him. Jude wanted the believers to take heed they didn’t get caught up in ungodly practices that would pull them away from their faith. A good rule of thumb for us is to balance our behaviors and attitudes against the Bible. If God’s Word advises against it, we’re wise to avoid it; if God’s Word instructs it, then we’re wise to follow it. We can’t trust men and cultural norms as our guide in life; Jesus was, is, and will always be the Hope of nations.
