Praise

Psalm 99 is known as an enthronement Psalm, meaning it was likely read aloud in worship festivals celebrating the Lord as King. The theme of Psalm 99 is God’s holiness and sovereignty. It starts with a confident declaration: The LORD reigneth. Whenever we see the word “lord” in all capital letters, we know it’s referring to Yahweh, the Covenant God of Israel. The Covenant God has always reigned, now reigns, and will reign for eternity. He reigns over all nations, but each of us must ask an important question of ourselves: does He reign in my life? That’s a personal decision, to serve God or serve self. An appropriate response to God’s rule is to tremble in awe, respect, and even excited recognition that He is the Almighty One. There’s another appropriate response: praise. We’ll examine that further in upcoming days. (Btw, all scripture will be from the King James Version this week.)
