Since we know that the Lord hears and cares, we can rest in Him…even in times of deep grief and sorrow. The word “rest” has significant meaning here. This isn’t just a time of closing one’s eyes and relaxing physically; it’s a condition of being in a safe, secure place, away from stress. This rest was possible because of what the Lord did for the psalmist. God dealt “bountifully” with him. When we experience the bounty of something, we’re receiving an abundance that fully satisfies. Our Father God is abundant in grace. He lavishes us with His compassion. His mercy is bountiful. There’s so much confidence reflected in this verse. Even though the writer’s heart was aching, he knew without doubt he was not walking the path of grief alone and his covenant God would bestow the strength he needed to navigate the pathway.
