Oh, those Pharisees… So bound up in the law and so worried their influence was being trampled, they could not see the truth. Their comment was ludicrous, and Jesus pointed it out with a simple observation: Why would the king of the demons drive out one of his own? Ridiculous! Would the Pharisees say that they had any power from the ruler of the demons? Of course not—they would claim it came from God. So why couldn’t they see the truth? So often our selfishness or human reasoning gets in the way of us seeing the truth right in front of us. When we look at the wonder of this world, especially in the season of spring when so much new life is unfurling, how can we not acknowledge the mighty hand of the Creator at work? God designed this world with its intricacies to sustain our physical bodies and please our emotional senses. God sent His Son to satisfy the deepest longings of our souls to be one with the One who fashioned us in our mothers’ wombs. Our denial doesn’t change the truth. God sent Jesus to be our Savior and Lord. Refuse Him, and we lead ourselves to destruction.
