Remember on Monday I mentioned that we Kansans enjoy watching storm clouds billow? It’s true, and I have some videos to prove I’ve been outside during a storm. Yet I have enough respect for the power of lightning or the strength of a tornado to go to shelter when it gets near. I’m awed by a storm’s power, while at the same I tremble in fear of its power. We call this a healthy fear, born of respect. Each of us should hold the same kind of awe-inspired fear, born of respect, for God and Hs power and might. So often people try to diminish Him with jokes or flippant, irreverent names. God is the Maker of heaven and earth. He breathed life into man and placed us on this life-sustaining planet. He is worthy of worship, of praise, of respect, of gratitude, of devotion. He is not and never will be the equivalent of any man, no matter how powerful the man might believe himself to be. God is the Alpha and Omega, the Ancient of Days. He is El Shaddai (God Almighty) and Yahweh-Shammah, the LORD who is always there. Stand before Him with awe and respect. Yahweh-Bore, the LORD Creator, should not be minimized.
