Social media has opened a door to criticism beyond anything I’ve seen before in my lifetime. I think it’s the anonymity of it. We can’t see the person, so we feel safe unloading our thoughts without much concern for the feelings at the other side of the screen. My heart has been so burdened by the way people speak to each other, attacking rather than seeking understanding, condemning rather than choosing respect or kindness. It’s particularly heartbreaking when these exchanges take place between professing Christians. If we claim to be Christ-followers, we are writing our testimonies in all we say and do. We are setting an example, and it needs to be a positive one! We all have our opinions. We’re all entitled to our opinions. As Christians, however, we have a greater obligation to seek peace and unity. Preserving the relationship should always be more important than winning the argument.
