In biblical times, sheep were raised for the slaughter. And sheep didn’t resist it; they submitted meekly. There is an application here for the Christian. Every day, we lay down self for the glory of the Kingdom. We give up our selfish desires to do His will. We choose the righteous pathway even when everyone around us is marching in the opposite direction. We listen for the Shepherd’s voice, and we heed it. In many countries, standing firm for Jesus means putting one’s life at risk of slaughter. But even if our physical body is slain, our spiritual body will live forever. So death is nothing more than running to Jesus. “I’d rather have Jesus than anything this world affords today…”
