There is a plague of evil in this world. We see examples of heresy and degradation and immorality every day. But those who strive to remain in close fellowship with the Lord will not fall into the pit with the heretics and dishonorable men. As much as I wish we could, we cannot change the world. But we can change ourselves. With God’s strength, we can choose the righteous pathway. We can set the example of respectfulness and holiness. Mom used to ask, “If your friend jumped off a bridge, would you jump, too?” when I complained that so-and-so got to do something I was denied. Everyone around you might be leaping off the bridge of morality into a pool of depravity, but when you stay close to God, you’re unlikely to take that leap. As the hymn stated, “Under His wings I am safely abiding. Tho’ the night deepens and tempests are wild, Still I can trust Him; I know He will keep me. He has redeemed me, and I am His child.”
