Something very sad happened in the midst of this conflict within the body of believers. They were so caught up in battling with each other, their prayer life disintegrated. Craving to please self became so intense they engaged in harmful behaviors. James told these people that they’d created such a toxic environment, they might even succumb to doing away with their rivals! Evil desires ruled their hearts, so they no longer sought God’s wisdom or guidance. Unwillingness to seek God was destroying the body from within. Selfishness always has a negative end result. But there is a cure! We’ll look at that more over the next few days.
