Emulating the Savior

God is God and I am not. Steven Curtis Chapman wrote a song with that phrase as its title and, boy, is it true. But how often do I try to “play” God? How many times have I thought a person was a lost cause, or some other person couldn’t possibly be a Christian the way he talks/behaves? Okay, we can make assumptions based on the way some seem to live their lives, but do we really know the heart of another human being the way God does? No. We don’t. We can’t, because we’re looking through human eyes. It’s so easy to see the “wrongs” others do; not so easy to admit the ones we perform ourselves. Before I point a finger of judgment, I need to remind myself of that opening phrase: God is God and I am not. “Judgment is mine,” says the Lord. My job is to do MY best at emulating my Savior and leave the judging to the One who sees all, knows all, and is always just and fair.
